
PROFILE
The Women's Services unit features nine private suites with aesthetic decorating, soothing lighting and leading-edge monitoring equipment that provide an environment conducive to rest and recovery. Sleeping accommodations are available for overnight guests. The unit is located in close proximity to the Special Care and Intensive Care Nurseries.
UNIT FOCUS
Women's Services provides antepartum care for women with high-risk pregnancies, post cesarean birth care and recovery care from gynecological surgery.
PATIENT CARE DELIVERY MODEL
Patients recovering from cesarean birth receive recovery/postpartum care while rooming-in with well infants. Post-gynecological care is available for procedures such as hysterectomy, bladder repair.
TEAM MEMBERS
RN's and assistant nursing staff provide antepartum nursing care, post-surgical nursing care for c-section and gynecological care. An RN antepartum coordinator provides specialized care for bed rest patients including education and preparation resources for families experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.
SCHEDULING PRACTICES
Staff scheduling provides around-the-clock patient care, seven days a week. In addition to regularly scheduled contracted nursing staff, per diem and on-call staff provide support during high census.
STAFF ORIENTATION
Unit orientation is preceptor based and individualized as determined by the clinical nurse educator with staff input. New graduate nurses and new hires participate in a unit orientation program.
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Successful completion of regularly scheduled skills labs is required. Participation in optional continuing education opportunities is strongly encouraged and supported.
