Nursing Careers

RN Residency Program

Program Details

The program is designed to assist the new or refresher RN in the transition from a novice practitioner to an independently-functioning RN through the team support of managers, trained preceptors and educators

The program is offered several times per year and consists of approximately 64 hours of classroom time and 280 hours of clinical time with an experienced preceptor (over 8-10 weeks).  Typically, more hours are added for specialty areas.

The formal classroom experience introduces the nurse to Evergreen's culture, resources and our expectations for the professional nurse.  Also included in the classroom instruction is information that builds upon the nurse's knowledge, and introduces the nurse to technical procedures, processes and the equipment used in the care of patients at Evergreen.

Written and verbal feedback is provided on a routine basis.

Eligibility

Any licensed registered nurse or future ADN or BSN graduate from an accredited school of nursing who has immediate plans to complete NCLEX testing is eligible to apply for the program.  Graduates of an RN refresher course may also apply for the Residency program.

Candidates must have a current Washington State RN license by the start date of the program.  The applicant must be willing to commit to a one-year full-time schedule.  Shift assignment will be determined by the department needs and is typically evenings or nights.
