This program utilizes teams of registered dogs (therapy animal) trained by the Delta Society’s Pet Partner Program. Dog handlers are trained volunteers and take their dogs to visit patients in the hospital. The dogs offer gentle touch and compassionate visiting. Volunteers provide much needed support for staff, patients and visitors by helping behind the scenes in nursing areas, the emergency department, the information desks, the gift shop or in office areas.
Teenagers from 16 to 19 learn valuable skills and responsibility while obtaining community service credit for school.
Work with a team of volunteers to greet visitors, look up patient room numbers, provide directions, deliver flowers and mail to patients, help staff with short errands, accompany new patients to their rooms, escort patients on discharge and other tasks as requested. Environment is fast paced.
Work in the hospital gift shop as a cashier, help stock and display, unpack and mark new merchandise.
Work in various department offices or nursing areas to help staff with special projects or routine clerical tasks such as copying, faxing, chart preparation, filing, laminating, data entry, distribution of mail and miscellaneous errands.
Assist the rehabilitation department by helping with office work, answering transport service calls, entering data and some patient care observation.
Serve as the liaison between the operating room staff and the surgery patient's waiting family and friends. Assist with discharges, help with paper management and run errands.
Assist with the discharge of patients, transfer of patient belongings and provide blankets and pillows for patients.
Direct families to appropriate areas, assist in answering phones and direct messages to appropriate recipient. Run errands to the hospital, prepare patient charts and prepare forms for patients. Assist with paper management.
Support emergency department staff in a very busy environment by making patient packets, doing lab runs and errands and overseeing waiting room.
Provide clerical and other support in the Cancer Resource Center, Radiation Oncology department or the Evergreen Breast Center.
This group meets Tuesday mornings to make packets, and prepare mailings. Other projects as needed.
