Hospital Mortality Rates

Hospital Death (Mortality) Rates Outcome of Care Measures

Reviewing death (mortality) rates can help determine whether a hospital is providing adequate, appropriate care for patients.  Each hospital is given a rank: (mortality) rates that are lower (better) than the U.S. National Rate, about the same as the U.S. National Rate, or higher (worse) than the U.S. National Rate.  The rates are adjusted depending on how sick a patient was when they were admitted to the hospital.

"30-Day Mortality" results when patients die within 30 days of their admission to a hospital.
