Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner

Evergreen Hospital's two Emergency Departments provide a 24-hour sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) who is specially trained to provide care to sexual assault patients.  

We offer immediate, compassionate, culturally sensitive and comprehensive forensic evaluation and treatment, including:

• Crisis intervention
• Medical care for your injuries and protection from further harm
• Timely, thorough and professional evidence collection, documentation and preservation to enhance the ability of law enforcement agencies to prosecute
• Evaluation and preventive treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
• Evaluation of pregnancy risk and prevention options
• Referral for follow-up medical care and counseling

Our team is available on a 24-hour basis, and consists of:

• Sexual-assault nurse examiners
• Emergency physicians and specialists
• Social workers
• Support services such as pharmacy, laboratory and diagnostic imaging

If you are sexually assaulted:

• Come to the Emergency Department
• Do not bathe, douche, eat or drink
• Do not change your clothes
• Call the police

The exam is available for victims who are 14 years and older.
