Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Pre-term Labor

Antepartum tests in the third trimester look for signs of fetal distress in high-risk pregnancies:

  • Non-stress testing monitors the baby's heart rate
  • A biophysical profile evaluates a baby's movement, breathing, muscle tone and amniotic fluid
  • Amniotic fluid volume is checked by brief ultrasounds

If extra care is needed to protect the health of the mother or baby, the mother will be admitted to Evergreen Hospital's antepartum unit for continuous monitoring.
