Our six sleep study rooms are designed with comfort in mind to reduce anxiety and reproduce a more normal sleep environment. We encourage patients to bring their own sleepwear, pillow, book, and whatever else makes their experience pleasant. Bring your laptop, as our rooms are equipped with free wireless. Both male and female technologists are available.
Two of our sleep study rooms are designed with adolescent patients' comfort and safety in mind, and a parent is welcome to sleep overnight in the room during the study.
Patients usually arrive in the early evening. One of our skilled sleep technologists will take you to your private bedroom and facilities. They will explain all of the procedures for your study and offer assistance with any additional paperwork. Please notify us at this time if you need to get up early, therefore need to be put to bed earlier.
Your sleep specialist will have predetermined your length of stay in our state-of-the-art facility, which may last up to 24 hours.
Several small sensors will be placed on your scalp, face, chest, abdomen and legs. The hook-up is a non-invasive, painless procedure; the sensors are attached with very mild paste or glue that washes off in the morning.
The sensors monitor your eye movements, muscle activity, brain waves, heart rate, airflow, respiratory effort and oxygen levels throughout the night. This information will help us better understand the nature of your medical condition and help us determine your diagnosis and treatment options.
As you sleep, your sleep patterns and video will be digitally recorded by the technologist, who will continuously monitor your sleep in a separate room throughout the night.
In the course of your sleep study, nearly 1,000 pages of data are collected, along with a complete video tape record. This data is thoroughly reviewed by a sleep medicine physician.
You will then have a follow-up visit with your physician to discuss the results and treatment recommendations.
The center accepts most insurances, though some may require you to get a referral from a primary care provider.
Because requirements for approval vary with insurance companies, you should contact your insurance provider if you have any questions.
