Surgical Services

Day of Surgery

If you have a fever or are feeling ill the morning of the surgery, do not come in. Call the OR control desk (425.899.3446) to reschedule.

Continue to fast. This means no eating, drinking or smoking; no gum, mints or sucking candy. You may rinse your mouth out after brushing your teeth but do not swallow any water.

Shower the morning of surgery. Dry your hair thoroughly, but do not use hair-styling products, makeup, nail polish, lotions, deodorants or perfume.

Take any medications you were instructed to take by your physician or the Pre-Op Clinic nurse with only a sip of water.

Do not bring any medications other than your inhaler and eye drops with you to the hospital.

Do not wear any jewelry, including rings and piercings. Jewelry is not allowed in our operating room for safety reasons, and we cannot be responsible for it. Jewelry too tight to remove may be cut off.

Do not bring electronics, valuables or items beyond a few toiletries, robe and slippers.

Dentures, glasses and/or contact lenses must be removed prior to your procedure; bring a container for storage.

Wear loose fitting, warm, comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to get on and off. No flip-flops, please.

Bring any special medical equipment that you use, such as crutches, walker, etc.

If you have sleep apnea and have a CPAP, bring it with you.

Bring copies of your insurance and pharmacy cards, and a method of payment for any co-pays. Evergreen Hospital accepts cash, checks and all major credit cards.

Co-pays for surgery may be paid in advance by credit card; contact pre-registration at 425.899.2722.

If you have an advance directive, bring a copy with you.

If you do not have an advance directive, you can download forms here.

Arrive at the hospital at your scheduled admission time.

If you are being discharged the same day, bring someone who can drive you home and who can stay with you for 24 hours post-operatively.

Parking

  • We recommend parking in the Blue parking garage. The surgery department is on the 3rd floor in the Blue zone.
  • If you are admitted to the hospital for one or more nights in our Silver tower, it is more convenient for your family to park in the Silver parking garage, which has direct elevator access to our patient floors.

Wheelchairs are available at the Information & Assistance Desks.

Check-In

  • You will check in at the registration desk on 3-Green; you'll be given a Surgical Services Passport which will provide you with expectations and caregiver names for the various preparation sites in the surgical process.
  • Please be on time - your check in time is only 90 minutes prior to your scheduled procedure. Some patients may be asked to arrive earlier for preparation purposes.
  • You and your family will be escorted to the Pre-Surgical Care Unit (PSCU) and introduced to the Patient Support Assistant who will maintain contact between you, your family and our surgical team.
  • In the Pre-Surgical Care Unit, you and your family will also be meeting your Evergreen surgical team, comprised of your surgeon, the anesthesiologist, the admitting nurse and the OR nurse.
  • If you wish, your family can be with you up until the time of your transfer to the operating suite.

After Surgery

  • After surgery, you will be taken to our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The typical stay here is one to two hours. The PACU is a large, open room with nurses providing care. Family members are typically not allowed here during this acute phase of patient recovery.
  • Once you're in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, your surgeon will meet with your family in the waiting area.
  • Patients staying in the hospital will be escorted to their room by our transport services team.
  • Patients who are being discharged later that day will be moved to a recovery area where your family or your selected 24-hour care giver will join in our post-op teaching process.
  • Should you need to get prescriptions filled, our Evergreen outpatient pharmacy can have them delivered to the recovery area for your convenience until 5pm. If you prefer, we can give you the prescriptions to be filled at the pharmacy of your choice.
