Some pregnancies are high-risk and demand a specialized level of care during both pregnancy and delivery. Other pregnancies may encounter unexpected problems.
At birth, many of these babies require the life-saving care of Evergreen Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Level III nursery is the highest level of care available for newborns.
Neonatologists - doctors with specialized training in the care of fragile newborns - are on-site around the clock. They work together with our specially trained nursing staff to provide life-saving care and high-tech monitoring until babies are stable on their own.
Our staff coordinates with the prenatal team at Seattle Children's Hospital for care of newborns requiring complicated care or surgery after birth.

Family-Centered Care
Evergreen's NICU was the first in the area to use private and semi-private rooms for patient care instead of the traditional ward where the babies are monitered in one big, noisy room.
Studies show that a quiet enviroment helps premature babies improve faster and go home quicker.
Our large, comfortable rooms allow families to stay together with their babies - even with triplets. There's a private bathroom and a daybed for a parent to spend the night.
Rooming in with premature babies allows the parents to take part in their baby's care, making them more confident when it comes time to take baby home.
NICU Follow-up Clinic
Our NICU Follow-up Clinic tracks a select group of high-risk infants cared for in our NICU to monitor their risks for developmental delays or disabilities due to their prematurity.
